What is Findit?
FindIt is a FREE UK classified advertising service. It uses both Web pages and Email mailing lists structured so that you can quickly and simply either

Find what you are looking to buy
or
Place a FREE Ad somewhere people will actively be looking to buy what you are selling

I did not receive my registration email
You probably typed your email address incorrectly. You may simply have mis-typed it. Other common mistakes we see are people getting the bit after the @ wrong (like @aol.co.uk when it should be @aol.com) or people putting "www" in front of their email address.

Here are some things you should check:

If you have any bulk email or spam filtering enabled on your email account, it's possible that our reply was mistakenly filtered out as spam. For instance, if you have a hotmail, msn, or yahoo email account, be sure to check your bulk email folder to see if our email ended up there by mistake.
If you have an AOL or CompuServe account, be sure your account is set to allow regular internet mail to get through. Many AOL users have their accounts set to block all non-AOL mail. This means they can email us, but our replies are automatically blocked.
Be sure to check that you haven't accidentally added findit.co.uk to your email program's blocked senders list. For instance, if you've been receiving our free newsletter and decided you wanted to stop receiving it by adding findit.co.uk to your blocked senders list, then you'll never receive any of our emails again until you remove findit.co.uk from that list.
Avoiding fraud
The Metropolitan Police Fraud Alert web site has some very useful information on various scams and frauds. We strongly advise you to visit it and read the West African advance fee fraud section.

We do not tolerate abuse of our system or any kind of fraudulent or criminal activity and will immediately bar from our system any user suspected of such. However in common with all other public services of this type we cannot possibly prevent all occurrences.

Your best defence is common sense. If a deal doesn't seem right or something is well below the normal price walk away from it. Here are some suggestions.
DO pay by credit card if possible. You then have some protection from the credit card company in most cases.
DO meet the buyer/seller and use cash as payment where possible. You can then see exactly what is being sold and get immediate payment.
DO use an escrow service such as Auctionpix.
DO NOT pay money direct into someones bank account or send them a cheque unless you are prepared to accept the risk that you will never receive whatever you paid for or it doesn't work, is incomplete or is not as described.
DO NOT assume that receiving money via payment systems such as Nochex, Paypal etc gives you 100% guarantee of payment. It is not unknown for them to confirm payment into your account then a day or two later to retract that saying the payment was fraudulent.
DO NOT have anything to do with anyone contacting you saying they are from Nigeria, South Africa or any other African or South American country who want you to send them your name, address and bank account details.
DO NOT accept a cheque or money order for more than your asking price and send the difference to the 'buyer'.

How do I place an advertisement?
Simply click the Advertise for FREE link near the top left of any page. In order to minimise fraud and abuse of the system we require you to register before you can submit ads. As soon as you have completed the registration form we will send you an email which you have to respond to in order to prove that the email address you gave is real and is yours. This address can then be used by the police to trace you via your ISPs records in the event that you commit fraud or abuse our system. Read and follow the instructions in the Registration Confirmation email. When you have completed your registration you will receive another email confirming your registration. When your registration has been confirmed you may login at www.findit.co.uk/user/ and submit ads.

Please note: If you try to register but do not receive the registration confirmation email it will almost certainly be because you entered your email address incorrectly. The most common reasons for this are:

1. A simple typing mistake.
2. Repeatedly entering an address which does not exist. Yes people do. All the time. Try sending yourself an email using the address you entered and see if you receive it.

When your advert has been processed you will receive a confirmation by email informing you of the URL (Universal Resource Locator i.e. the web address) of the page containing your advert and telling you how to modify or remove it. All adverts are created as web pages and sent out to subscribers of the relevant email list.

I can't see a link or button to click
If you are experiencing problems with missing buttons or links on any page, this may be because Ad Blocking is enabled in Norton Personal Firewall. You will need to disable Ad Blocking to see everything that is on the page:

Close Internet Explorer
Double-click on the Norton Personal Firewall icon on your desktop
Open the Status and Settings page
Click on Ad Blocking
Select 'Turn Off' in the right hand column
Reopen Internet Explorer

Advertising Hints and Tips
1. Most important first. Keep your email address up to date. If you change your email address and don't update it in your profile email responses sent to it will be bounced back to us and we will delete your registration and all your ads.

2. Read How to advertise if you haven't done so already.

3. Read the text in any forms you use. It is there to help you.

4. Add a picture to your ad. Use only GIF or JPG format files which are less than 200k bytes in size and size them to fit within an 800x600 screen. These general rules keep the file size to a minimum and should allow most people to view your picture without scrolling around. Login and select My Ads to upload pictures.

FindIt Mailing Lists
FindIt mailing lists are for people who prefer to have selected advertisements land in their inbox without having to actively search for them at regular intervals.

There are hundreds of Findit mailing lists so choose the ones which are relevant to you by going to the list of ads which is closest to what you want. E.g If you are interested in all Ford Focus car adverts then go to www.findit.co.uk/cars/ford/focus.php then enter your email address in the form near the top of the page.
