Honda XR400R – 2005 - £2100

You are looking at my Honda XR400R which was first registered in Feb 2005 on a 54-Plate. It is MOT until Feb ’09 and taxed until end of May’09. As you will know if you are thinking of buying one of these bikes they don’t come much better than this.

Honda XR’s are probably one of the best selling Enduro / Trail bikes of all time. Ultra-reliable machines which go on forever. The 400 is a nice useable version of the XR with plenty of torque & power when needed in a lightweight package

My example has done approx 180hours or just over 2,500 miles. The original speedo gave up just after I bought it so I took the opportunity to upgrade to a digital Vapor Trailtech.

My bike is a nice clean example which I have used for a bit of light trail riding and green laning. It has a few scuffs on the plastics as you would expect from being used off road, but that’s what it was designed for. It hasn’t been messed about with fitting supermoto wheels, tuned to within an inch of its life, etc, etc and then being thrashed up & down the motorway. I have used it as its designers intended ………….. getting it dirty on weekends when I'm not working. Its standard apart from a few minor upgrades which enhance its performance off-road.

As you can see it is in very good condition, and has been well cared for. I change the oil every 300 miles, and give it a thorough, tank & plastics-off clean every other ride. The bike is straight & true with no wheel buckles or bent frame/headstock problems. I searched high & low for one when I bought it, eventually going all the way to Scotland for this very nice example. Its starts easily both cold and hot, no problems.

The reason for selling is I’m not getting much use out of it and have only covered 1200 miles in the last 8 months !

I have undertaken the following maintenance & mods to the bike.

Swing arm bearings serviced & greased (XR’s are well known for seized swing arms) Any internet search will reveal the problems you can have with this. If you go to look at one make sure they have been done. Your rear suspension will seize up and you will eventually have to cut the swing arm off if the swing arm bearings have not been serviced, mine has been serviced 2 months ago and will be ok for a good few years.

Headstock bearings serviced & greased. Again another XR weak point.

New EBC clutch fitted.

Recent front & rear brake pads. Carbone Lorraine / Goldfren

Recent front & rear wheel bearings

Recent spark plug & cap

Good road legal knobbly tyres with a good few hundred miles left on them

Acerbis plastics all round with the original Honda ones as spares.

Acerbis road legal headlight unit

Vapor Trailtech Enduro computer

Polisport hand guards

Michelin heavy duty inner tubes, which I have also filled with slime to help prevent punctures.

Extra wide footpegs for more comfort when the going gets tricky (the original ones will come with the bike as spares)

Renthal bars and crash pad.

Renthal chain & sprockets.

Honda rear fender tool pack.

Twin-air air filter.

Bike is located just off J43 of the M4 in South Wales, postcode SA10 7SQ.

A test ride will be available on proof of a valid certificate of insurance, full bike license and the asking price in cash in full. I'm open to sensible offers very, very, very close to my asking price, no silly offers please. You can arrange a courier your end to collect the bike if its more convenient for you.
